“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9

Shabbat Shalom Sisters.

Let us read some verses that help us understand God’s heart about sabbath day.

I believe the most important thing that we can do now is pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth of the word of God. In this post, we will share some of the verses that helped us understand God’s heart about keeping the Sabbath day.

Genesis 2:3 – And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exodus 20:8-11 – Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy(to keep it Holy is an expectation of God, is a day for us deeply nourish our soul). Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God:( the sabbath of the LORD thy God, a separate day to deeply connect with him) in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:(Anyone should work this day and also we should not make anyone work for you) 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exodus 31:1516

Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death(here we see God’s judgment for those do not obey his will). Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. (we are the children of Israel, Praise God for that, and this is a sign of our covenant, also is for forever).

Deuteronomy 5:12-15

Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it(God will guide you how you can sanctify this day, some people fast/pray, others take a good portion of the time to read the word of God, worship him, etc), as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

Isaiah 58:13 – If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:(this verse makes clear that is not a day for us pursue our on pleasures).

Ezekiel 20:12-24 – Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

Matthew 5:17-19Jesus says; Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (Jesus fulfill God’s commandments, Jesus also kept the Sabbath).

Matthew 12:8 Jesus says; For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Luke 23:56 – And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. (“And they returned” = The 11 disciples)

Luke 4:16 – And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. (Jesus expended time reading the book of the prophet Esaias).

Luke 13:14  – And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day(healed is a spiritual work and we should never neglect work to God), and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. (the people did not comprehend why Jesus was working in this day, but they were not spiritually guiding).

“God Is Omniscient, Omnipresent, OmnipotentPsalm 139.

It is amazing how God and his Son work in unity. Jesus as an obedient son fulfills God’s will.

John 14:21 – Jesus says; “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

Sisters let us not be resistant to obey God’s commandment for being afraid or a shame, or any kind of feelings of “what the peoples will think about me if I start to obey God, nobody around me is doing this, do not be concerned about peoples opinions or judgments, God is our judge and He will be please of your obedience.

Well, Sisters, we have a lot of verses that talk about the sabbath, we invite you to learn more about it, we believe this will edify you.

Obs.: All underlined texts are my own observation.
